SMASH!!!! Turning 1!

Your little one only turns 1 once, man that's a lot of ones, hahaha.

Anyhow, the first birthday is such a huge milestone. And just think about how much your child has accomplished in his or her first year. Eating, sleeping, focusing, holding things, rolling, crawling, walking (or almost) and the list goes on and on. I am always amazed at how much a child does within their first year.

I had the pleasure of meeting this darling girl and her family yesterday. She was such a doll. Happy as could be to let me photograph her and excited to get the chance to try cake!

When speaking with her Mama she said that she wanted a Valentine's Theme since because her birthday is right after Valentine's Day. So perfect for this time of year since finding props and decor is a breeze and I already had Valentine's Mini's set up so all the stars aligned.

When thinking about ideas for a birthday session I suggest starting with colors. This can be based on an outfit you've found for your child, or baby's room, or party plans. Then, let's get an idea of what you're wanting. Some parents choose just a plain background while others want banners, balloons, the WORKS! Sky is the limit.

I love to hear your thoughts and I am here to help with suggestions, finding items and choosing the right background to work with your theme. I can also set it up if you're unsure of what direction you'd like to head.

The cake! it is obviously a main piece of the cake smash session. I have had everything from parents wanting me to order one to bringing a cupcake, home made cake, one picked up at the bakery already made to elaborate fancy special ordered.  It depends on what you're vision is. I also encourage you to consider budget. Remember, this cake is going to SMASHED!

One of my favorite things about Cake Smash Sessions is giving baby the freedom to be. Baby gets to enjoy the cake while Mom, Dad and I enjoy her reaction.  And no matter how she reacts the sweet look of exploration always makes for darling images.

On the day of your session bring extra clothes and a diaper cover that fits the theme if you'd like, otherwise diapers are adorable too. Then sit back and enjoy the experience.
